February 1, 2010: Federal Task Force Highlights Value of Annuities

Late last week, the federal government’s Middle Class Task Force, chaired by Vice President Joseph Biden, issued a report highlighting ways for Americans to improve their financial security, including maintaining a more secure retirement. The report concluded that annuities, which are typically the preferred way to fund structured settlement payments, are an effective way to improve financial security, given the high degree of certainty and the benefits of regular income.

January 27, 2010: Structured Settlements Had No Part of Rothstein Operation, Evidence Shows

Former Florida lawyer Scott Rothstein pleaded guilty today to running a $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme based on sales of fictitious lawsuit settlements. As the National Structured Settlements Trade Association has documented, whatever Rothstein may have sold (or pretended to have sold) to investors, it had nothing to do with structured settlements.

January 16, 2010: "Structured Settlements Offer Financial Security in Good and Bad Times"

That's the headline from a great letter to the editor in the January 13 issues of the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal. Written by NSSTA Board member Dan Finn, the letter notes:

"Some things just make sense regardless of economic realities and it's doubtful that guaranteed, tax-advantaged future income tailored to an injury victim's (or an attorney's) specific living needs will ever fall out of favor."

January 13, 2010: Video - Immunizations & Structured Settlements

"Without the structured settlement, there's no telling what kind of dissipation might have taken place," says former attorney and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman in a new video.
